About this cause:Every 40 seconds someone in the United States has a stroke. Every 4 minutes, someone dies.
A stroke or "brain attack" occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery or a blood vessel breaks, interrupting vital blood flow and oxygen to an area of the brain. When either of these things happen, brain cells begin to die and brain damage occurs.
National Stroke Association was formed in 1984 to fill a void as the only national nonprofit healthcare organization focusing 100 percent of its resources and attention on stroke. Through the organizations mission to reduce the incidence and impact of stroke, National Stroke Association develops compelling education and programs focused on prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and support for all impacted by the disease.
