About this cause:** UPDATE: Tia received her complete healing on May 6th. She was surrounded by her family and friends. The funds received from this page will be used to order Tia's bronze memorial (headstone).
Tia was originally diagnosed with melanoma in 2010 after discovering a spot on her neck. After a successful surgery, she was in remission until a new spot appeared near the same area in late 2014. She underwent surgery once again to remove the spot and several lymph nodes near the affected area. After 30 radiation treatments, she once again was in remission. Tia went into the doctor for a spot on her hip in mid-September. The results came back that her melanoma had returned. In October, Tia made a visit to the ER and a CT scan indicated spots on her liver and spleen. A liver biopsy and an MRI later revealed that Tia is suffering from a very aggressive Stage IV disease which included two tumors on her brain and metastasized melanoma on her liver. Tia's plan was to begin radiation in an effort to battle the brain tumors, but another trip to the ER revealed that her tumors were causing bleeding on her brain. After meeting with both the neurologist and the oncologist, a plan was set in motion for Tia to undergo a craniotomy. 100% of the tumors were removed. PRAISE GOD!
After a successful craniotomy and 10 radiation treatments Tia began chemo treatments. After two months of Mekinist (chemo pill) her scans showed that the cancer was not responding to treatment. The tumors grew in both size and number. A new plan was set in place. She now has a port in her right shoulder area. Chemo has begun using the drug Nivolumab. Next time, (April 21st), we're going to combine the chemo yervoy with the current one and see if that attacks the cancer cells any better.
In choosing colors for the bracelet, BLACK was selected for Melanoma Awareness. PURPLE was selected because it represents Tia and her favorite color!
Thank you for continued prayers. Thank you for praying boldly for her miracle. Thank you for the support, love, and encouragement. God is in control! God is good... ALL the time!!!
