About this cause:Selective mutism is an anxiety disorder that usually begins in early childhood. A child with selective mutism has difficulty communicating in certain situations (like at school or with friends), even though he/she can speak normally when comfortable (like at home).
Selective mutism can significantly impact a child’s life. It can interfere with performance at school, both academically and socially. Further, it can prevent kids from engaging in fun activities that may require verbal communication, like going to birthday parties or having play dates with friends. These children do want to communicate, smile, and engage with others, but their anxiety can prevent them from doing so.
We have witnessed the pain of children who suffer in silence and we are committed to helping children find their voice. We have come together to form a community to help one another and, most importantly, our children.
The mission of the Selective Mutism Association (SMA) is to increase public awareness of selective mutism. SMA works to promote greater understanding of this disorder through education, promoting research, and by providing support to professionals, affected individuals, and their families.
Your purchase will help contribute to spreading awareness and knowledge of this disorder.
