About this cause:G-PACT is the leading non-profit organization fighting the devastating impact of gastroparesis, chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction, colonic inertia, and other paralytic conditions of the GI tract. This leads to malnutrition, dehydration, starvation, pain, nausea, vomiting, and even death. There is no cure, and no good treatment options. Many patients cannot eat and rely on feeding tubes or IV nutrition to sustain life. Malnutrition leads to other complications, and many patients suffer from additional illnesses leading to full disability. There is little funding into research at this time.
G-PACT was one of only 15 organizations nationwide selected to work with the Genetic Alliance towards research into a cure. The expense of this unprecedented study is high, but it is crucial towards research. G-PACT is also increasing awareness and provides multiple patient support services and resources. We work on a fully volunteer basis and all of our services are free to patients. Therefore, 100% of all proceeds go directly back to patient support services, maintenance of programs, education, and research. Services include a toll-free support line, support groups, establishment of DTP Awareness month in August, educational materials, free items to help manage day to day challenges, advocating on Capitol Hill for funds, and working with the FDA and other non-profits with an interest in connections between various illnesses in search of a cure including the MJ Fox Foundation and Dysautonomia International, among others. We also seek options outside the box by working with Right to Try, advocating for the 21st century cures act, and pursuing other options for patients to receive access to treatment available in other parts of the world.
We are the go-to organization for leading motility physicians, maintain a medical advisory board, and are invited to speak at conferences in an effort to help educate others on the need for a cure. We have fans from all 50 states and almost 50 different countries!
