About this cause:
Each year the Smilow Cancer Hospital has a charity bike ride called “Closer to Free: A Ride for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven”. The dollars raised for the Closer to Free Ride (CTF) will directly support patient care and research at Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center. Smilow is Southern New England’s premier cancer hospital and this ride is their signature fundraising event.
Cancer is a disease that EVERYONE has been touched by. Every person that we know has a friend, family member, partner or co-worker who currently has or has had cancer. Aside from those people I have met in my role of RN at YNHH/Smilow over the past 23 years, I also have family members who have been touched by this disease. My grandmother & great-grandmother died of breast cancer when I was in my teens. I also have an aunt who has had breast cancer twice and has persevered. Unfortunately, my aunt's daughter has now been diagnosed with breast cancer and has just started her journey toward being free of cancer.
I see patients every day who are diagnosed with cancer and are in some stage of their treatment or recovery. The human spirit is strong and we will continue to fight and one day we will see an end to cancer.
The CTF ride logo and ride jerseys are green, blue and white. Those are our Bravelets™colors. Choose one or choose them all and wear them in honor of and in support of your loved ones. Ten dollars from every item purchased will go toward making this world CLOSER TO FREE from cancer and will be donated to CTF.
To quote the founder of Bravelets™, “There are times in all of our lives where we need to be brave – whether for ourselves, for our family, for our friends, or even for a complete stranger. Bravelets™ bracelets are more than just something to wear on your wrist. They are a symbol of hope, strength and courage. They are designed to help you be brave in the toughest of times.”
Thank you for helping us get one step CLOSER TO FREE!
