About this cause:
BraveHearts, a 50c3 nonprofit organization, was first started in 2002 in Harvard, IL (McHenry County) serving a small handful of children and adults with various diagnoses through therapeutic horseback riding. In 2007, BraveHearts opened their doors to military veterans, serving veterans at no cost.
In 2010, BraveHearts acquired a therapeutic riding facility, in Poplar Grove, IL (Boone County), and began an outpatient clinic offering physical, occupational and speech therapy using hippotherapy (use of the horse) as a treatment strategy for individuals in need.
This merger allowed for BraveHearts to expand its services, including therapeutic riding and veteran services, reaching individuals in the next county. As a PATH International (PATH Intl.) Premier Accredited Center (PAC), BraveHearts has extensive experience in both delivering EAAT services and in serving VSM and individuals with various diagnoses. BraveHearts has progressively increased both the number of individuals and equine sessions each year, serving over 1,000 individuals and providing nearly 19,000 sessions (9,500 hours). The veteran services have seen a most rapid increase serving 639 VSM with 12,962 EAAT sessions during 2016..
BraveHearts has become an industry leader in PATH designing, implementing and hosting several continuing education opportunities each year for professionals in efforts to help increase the accessibility and quality of equine assisted services for veterans and individuals with disabilities throughout the nation.
