About this cause:

14 Year Old Vermont Girl Teaches Us How to Be Brave.

When you hear the diagnosis "brain tumor," most kids and parents become paralyzed, but that is not what happened to 14 year old Riley (left in photo with her identical twin sister, Hannah) and her mom Laura Callen. They turned this horrible diagnosis into a platform, rightfully named the Be Brave for Life Foundation that exemplifies Riley's fight, optimism and relentless drive to make a difference and raise money for research. Over the past five years, Riley has undergone multiple craniotomies to remove rare brainstem tumors. Removal has left her with permanent facial palsy, double vision, hearing loss and various sensory deficits. However, these things do not define her or slow her down. Riley explains, “When people ask me how I am or are you scared, I keep saying, no, because I don’t want them to be scared for me.” It was Riley’s hospital bed dream to educate others about benign brain tumors and overcoming adversity. She wants to help find a cure, not just for herself, but for everyone out there with similar diagnoses. Go to www.bebrave.life to learn more.
