About this cause:

Thanks for stopping by! My name is Kit :) Last year I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis, an autoimmune disease in which my own body attacks itself and causes joint pain, swelling, stiffness, and fatigue. It can also affect your organs. As a singer, the worst symptom for me was developing Cricoarytenoid Arthritis, which took away my ability to sing and sometimes even speak for several months. It has rocked my world, though luckily, I believe I finally have it under control - at least for now. I will have this disease for the rest of my life, and I will probably go through periods of flares and remissions. On top of that, I recently found out I also have Fibromyalgia. Autoimmune disease affects at least 50 million Americans. They include conditions like Graves Disease (thyroid), Crohn's Disease (intestinal tract), lupus (multiple systems), Multiple Sclerosis (MS), and many others. Because there are so many conditions affecting so many different organs and body systems, research to understand the underlying pathology (the body attacks the affected system as if it was a foreign body, creating chronic and damaging inflammation) is seriously underfunded. However, once you have been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease or condition, the odds of having a second or multiple conditions multiply significantly. Please consider buying a bracelet and supporting research on autoimmune diseases - your body attacking itself is one of the worst feelings in the world, and far too many people suffer with this battle every day. It is supremely underfunded. Let's help change that! Thank you!
