I was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia April 20, 2011 and my world flipped upside down! All of a sudden, I moved to Houston to go to MD Anderson Cancer Center and they were talking chemo and transplants and I was WAY overwhelmed! I started telling myself to just take “one hour at a time” and it became my mantra. I could handle what was coming in the next hour, but tried not to think about what came next. My friends sold lots of tshirts that said “Jodi’s a Rockstar” to raise money for me and seeing pictures of all my friends and family and even people I had never met wearing my shirt kept me going I had 3 rounds of tough chemo and then they found out my sister was a perfect match for me…so then I had a stem cell transplant…it was rough, but I powered through it and I am now almost 17 months post-transplant and doing great! It may seem that you won’t get through the tough times, but just take it one hour at a time and try not to get too overwhelmed…
