Today is a new day for many. Today is just another day for some. It is my hope that I can share some of why I "Relay For Life" in North Kitsap, Poulsbo, Wa.

I relay because of my Mom. She was diagnosed with cancer many years ago and fought so very hard. She passed away on December 27th, 2008 with her family by her side all the way. Her strength gave me strength. This is why I am an advocate for raising funds to provide HOPE for those still searching. My first year walking on the track in 2005 was tough. The first mile was a very hot day, walking in a pasture where there were rocks, hard dirt and holes as we made our way around a field. Blisters came; it was apparent I would be better off to loose my shoes and walk barefooted. In 18 hours my personal goal was to walk 5 miles. Yes, I made it with the help of her voice on the phone in a conversation I had with her in July 2005. She told me "YOU CAN DO THIS, NEVER GIVE UP, SOMEONE IS DEPENDING ON YOU!" It was that early morning that I realized possibly how she must have felt just being able to walk to the bathroom a few steps away from her bed on her own, never giving up no matter how she felt. I will always remember just how she encouraged me that early morning, being so sick herself but was rooting me on across the "Finish Line". To hear her voice telling me that "I DID IT"! To keep on walking and working each year for this cause because she couldn't. So, here in 2016, I once again will continue to walk in her HONOR, REMEMBERING her, and FIGHT BACK with all I have in order to raise money so we and the next generations to follow could possibly have a cure. She lost 3 brothers, many nieces, friends, and neighbors to this horrific disease that robs you of many things.

Cancer NEVER sleeps, it doesn't care who you are, where you live, what you wear, what you drive, how much money you have in a bank account. It does rob you your dignity, your hair (for many), your strength, your ability to drive a vehicle and many other things for many different people.

Your $10.00 can provide a Petri dish for researchers to work with in their labs, your donations provide gasoline cards so patients can get to their treatments, purchase wigs, provide hotels for those cancer patients who are away from home and undergoing treatments out of their area which in turn lessons their financial burdens, along with many other programs to long to list. Please consider a purchase where $10.00 will go toward my Relay For Life fund for The American Cancer Society.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read about how close this is to my heart.
