My life with PCOS

Posted on March 14 2015

Hi, I'm Danielle. I'm currently 17 years old. PCOS has been a huge part of my life for nearly 4 years now. I had no clue what PCOS was or that it even existed until it was too late. At the age of 13 I was admitted to the hospital for excrutiating pain. I had emergency surgery to remove my left ovary for a torsion that led to ovary necrosis. My other was luckily saved. It was the most horrifying experience of my life. I spent 8 weeks trying to recover and learn to walk again.
A month ago I went to the doctor thinking I had appendicitis. After an ultrasound, I was rushed to the hospital again for another surgery. Luckily, the torsion had not been there for long so my remaining ovary was saved again. PCOS dominates my life. It's hard not knowing anyone who has the same thing. No one understands why I'm depressed. No one understands why I constantly have to go to the doctor. It's embarassing. But I want to let people know about PCOS. I want to let others know the symptoms and that they can get a head start of treating PCOS. I don't want others to go through the same things I've had to.
