My Brave Story
Posted on January 08 2017
Over the years we have experienced many memorable occasions with our family and friends, vacationing or visiting the Gatlinburg area and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The mountains offer magnificent views, abundant wildlife, rest and solitude. Gatlinburg is a charming little mountain town that is bustling with activity. The people are caring, warmhearted, and never lacking in friendly conversation.
Since moving to TN, I have come to appreciate this area tremendously. Whenever I'm feeling down or just need a pick-me-up, I hop in my car and go for a drive to The Smokies, to clear my head and regain my momentum. I love all the beauty of Gods' marvelous creations and feel so lucky that all of this is within my reach.
When word of the fires hit the news, I was in disbelief. It looked like something out of a horror flick, unimaginable and unbelievable. I was glued to the television, watching and waiting, wondering how it would all turn out for these dear people. For many, it ended in tragedy. Fourteen people lost their lives trying to escape the raging infernos. Families lost their homes, businesses burnt to the ground, and my beloved Smoky Mountains were scarred. My heart was filled with sadness.
This is why I'm doing this. Because I wanted to do something, anything I could, that might make some kind of a difference. It seems little in comparison to some of the other benefits that are being held, but I'm a firm believer that God can take something little and turn it into something big. After all, he did feed the multitudes with just 5 loaves and 2 fish!
The reason I chose Bravelets for this fundraiser is because I like their concept and mission statement, "Our Mission is to Help People Be Brave During Hard Times". In my lifetime I have known many people - family members, friends and coworkers - who were facing some kind of trial. I think we all know those people. I have also had times in my life when I needed to be brave. It was during those times that the support and encouragement of family and friends made a world of difference. Bravelets are a tokens of encouragement, inspiring pieces of jewelry to remind people that they are not alone. Whatever they're facing, they can be brave. So, while you're helping the people in the Gatlinburg area recover from great loss, you can also be helping a friend or loved one with a little gift of Bravery!
10% of all items purchased from my Bravelets Fundraiser page is donated to the Dollywood Foundation My People Fund, established by Dolly herself! 100% of your donations go to those who lost their homes in the Gatlinburg fires. The My People Fund is distributing $1000 per month for six months to help those people get back on their feet. Dolly Parton is such a kind, generous lady, and a great example of how we are to lift one another up. But for some of these people, the journey will be a long one lasting way beyond six months. Every little bit will help someone along that journey.
I hope you'll consider purchasing an item or two from my personal fundraiser page. Thank you so much for all of your support!
