Get Busy Living or Get Busy Dying
Hi Thanks for reading my story, more of a journey,

My name is Mark Townsend. I am a former Tennis Professional and entrepreneur forced to medically retire due to an early cryptogenic stroke in February of 2013. Years before I survived cancer several times! Crazy right? Nine lives? Who knows? I am in the progress of ending 3 years of rehabilitation and recovery from my stroke. I have decided to try something epic to celebrate my recovery. Soon I am backpacking the John Muir Trail in the High Sierras (20 + days).

To accomplish this I have put together a small group to help me film, document, write and share my experience and my return form several massive strokes. My goal is to raise money and support for the cause, the trip and more importantly to me, motivate, educate and inspire other stroke and cancer survivors and their families. I want to give back and raise awareness, money and support in a BIG way. As you know many stroke victims like myself cannot even function day to day. This was my story, my personal mountain to summit to conquer. I worked my butt of and never gave up hope. This documentary will follow me beginning with my end of days in rehabilitation, to the intense planning, organization and training in preparation for the hike and then continue all the way to my walking into the terminus of the John Muir Trail in Yosemite. This journey will continue to follow me day to day on the trail, finally ending up at my final waypoint, the pinnacle (no pun) and the highest summit in the US, Mt Whitney at 14,500 feet.

This documentary, the website, my blog pages, images and fundraising efforts are beginning now. I am asking for your help. Seeking more just a sponsorship [support in the form of product, advice, expertise, professional direction, PR, etc, etc, etc.]. As I mentioned, I was forced into early retirement and disability from my cryptogenic (unknown origin) strokes. My career was cut short and my life had hung in the balance for 10 days while I was laying n the intensive care stroke unit. My resources are limited, speech, cognitive and coordination of everything. To bring this project to fruition I need support. I have several outfitters who already have committed to gear sponsorship and I am grateful however, I need much more.

I do hope that you consider my request. My story is real, heart warming and most of all sets a bar for inspiration and hope to survivors and their families. Get busy living or get busy dying is my new mantra (Shawshank Redemption) and the John Muir Trail is my Zihuatanejo.

Thank you in advance, I want to be a HERO to stroke survivors like myself, please help me in my efforts.
