In 2011, I found a canker sore on my tongue after 3 weeks it would not heal. So I went to a doctor who did a biopsy and it came back positive for cancer. I remember when I received that phone call at work that it was cancer, I cried and was devastated. The Dr. gave me a few options. I ended up making an appointment with Dr. Lee at Loma Linda Medical Center, and he told me that I would need surgery to remove the cancer. The surgery procedure would include taking half my tongue and then rebuilding it with skin and veins from my arm. I made it through the surgery, because God is good, and I had a lot of family and friends praying for me. Then came the 30 radiation treatments. It was really hard and some days I just didn't want to go but with encouragement from my husband, family, friends and my faith in God I made it through, and have been cancer free for almost 5 years.
Since 2012 I have served on the board for Crystal Roses. Crystal Roses, Inc. is a non-profit that supports women facing life-threatening medical conditions. We offer Comfort Totes to help make treatment and recovery time as comfortable as possible. I just want to give back and help women know that they are not alone.
