Colon Cancer Bravery
Posted on December 21 2014
My father was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. He had been having issues and put off a colonoscopy for a couple years due to the fact he was devoting his time to taking care of my mother who was on hospice. After she passed, his doctor insisted he have the test. They found colon cancer and removed part of his colon, spleen and a portion of his pancreas and also found more cancer that was inoperable, but felt able to keep under control with chemo and gave him 3 to 5 years. Well after awhile they determined the chemo was not making things worse nor helping and they stopped it. He passed away 6 months after the surgery. During his last 6 months he was frustrated because he could not get his strength back and do things for himself and needed someone with him all the time. He just never fully recovered after his surgery and kept going downhill. He never complained and was very, very brave during the whole thing. My daughter took him to his doctor appointments and was there to make sure his meds were taken and he had whatever he needed. She wound up losing her job due to the fact that she could not be flexible in her hours and days to work. But she said she would do it all over again. I purchased one of the bracelets for her - it is something she wanted in rememberance of her Papa. Love you Heather.
