When I was a little girl my great grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He suffered with it for eight long years which meant that I never knew him without it. That didn’t stop us from making a bond strong enough to penetrate through. Even after he had forgotten his wife, his daughter, my father and his siblings, he still remembered me. He didn’t know my name or how he knew me… He just knew that I was very special to him. After he past, Alzheimer’s continued to wreck its devastation on my family, taking my two great uncles and my grandmother. I wear my brave bracelet in memory of them, because as long as the family remembers them, they are never lost.
